The rain that was promised yesterday day came in the evening and lasted most of the night, but this morning it's a nice but chilly morning. We break our mooring and head towards Aylesbury we have eight locks to contend with and the journey is through pleasant countryside, sometimes the canal narrows due to the reeds growing on both sides , the water is really clear you can see right to the bottom.
We reach Aylesbury basin which signifies the end of this canal, the basin is set out very nice with plenty of visitors mooring, we moor at a pontoon there is plenty of new building around the basin and some in the process of been built. Waitrose is very near and handy, plus a Travelodge hotel overlooks the basin.
Aylesbury is a busy market town, with a mixture of new and old buildings containing All your shopping, eating or drinking needs, we had a wander around and took in some of its interesting sites, including a few statues, one a tribute to Ronnie Barker who statutes his acting career at the local theatre.
Aylebury's heraldic crest is centred on the Aylesbury duck, which has been bred here since the birth of the Industrial Revolution, although only one breeder, Richard Waller, of true Aylesbury ducks remains today.
We go back to the boat and settle down for the night even though all of Aylesbury nightlife is only a few feet away, must be getting old :-)
