Through Hemel Hempstead

A Grey morning awaits us today, before we leave our mooring I pop over to the local chanderly as they said yesterday that today they might have in stock the part we are looking for, but unfortunately they didn't have it, so back to the boat and off we set.

We have a swing bridge to operate first, Denise done this quite easy as it all done by electric at just a push of a button, but after this, is our first lock, one of eleven today, the canal cuts through the well planned new town of Hemel Hempstead, we don't stop other than to pay a visit to Sainsburys, which is located by lock 67, with good mooring, here we stock up food for the weekend, but what we can see from the canal it looks an attractive town, and we might stop here on the way back., but according to the Telegraph it's one of the ugliness towns in the UK

The next town we pass is Kings Langley which derives its name from its royal associations there is still remains of a palace in the town. We then go under the M25 with its sound of car, lorries and other transport rush to their destination while we plod along at walking pace along the canal, we moor by lock 72 and the sound of the A41 is a constant hum of noise, but it will only be for one night. The American president Jimmy Carter direct ancestors are from this town.

Not sure why the Loch Ness monster is here....?

We settle down again for the night with no pub in walking distance, so a beer from the fridge to replenish the fluids we lost doing the locks :)
