It rains..........
It's tipping down this morning but we decide to break our mooring as later on today a shed load of holiday boaters will be leaving the marina just below us, and we don't want to be stuck behind them, so off we go.
Straight way we have a lock to operate, but we are joined by another boat which is run by the Girl Guides http://www.girlguiding.org.uk/home.aspx And they have lots of eager helper so Denise and I do nothing as we use this lock.
We leave the lock and the girl guides behind as we proceed up the canal, the course of the canal is very twisty with loads of sharp bends to navigate. We then come to Woolhampton swing bridge which Denise operates, most of the swing bridges are electronically operated so it just a few pushes of buttons and we are past it. The next lock is a bit of a swine, luckily we were told previously about this before we got there, as you a approached the lock a weir run at a right angle to it pushing you away from it,but we managed to get in, but I did hit the lock wall with a bang. Denise filled the lock and we were through in no time, it was still tipping down with rain we decided to moor up for the night.
Woolhampton is a village that straddles th main road between Bath and London the A4, and owes its existence to the days of mail coaches and horse as a stopping point on the Bath road.
Where we moored for the night we were talking to a fellow boater about various things and the topic got around to music and it turned out that he was in a band that plays a bit of blues so check them out, this is there web page but also do a search for " SONIC GYPSY" on spotify to listen to their album.
Happy Good Friday to everyone xx
