A stop at Whitchurch

We left our mooring to another sunny morning down the beautiful Thames, the early morning rowers are out and about as we weave our way pass them, it's not long before Basildon Park with its splendid Palladian mansion that was built for Sir Francis Sykes who mad his fortune in India. Beale park. A wildlife trust sits in front of Basildon Park with plenty of mooring.

We now reach the village of Whitchurch with its lock which we go through, again owe pass lovely big houses that most of us could only dream to own, the river is lovely with little island sitting in the middle which we have to manoeuvre around.

A nice Tree house

Mapledurham house a manor house built in 1490 an impressive place that has been used as a setting for the film the Eagles has landed and the television series inspector Morse.

Next we pass the busy town of Reading, we stop at a boat yard on a island for diesel, water and a pump out, a little further on is good mooring for the Tescos superstore if you are reading this on a boat and need a shop.

We then pass the Kennet and Avon canal entrance which goes all the way to Bristol,we leave Reading and moor up just before Sonning lock, and settle down to enjoy this weather.
