Back on to the Thames to Abingdon

A nice sunny morning greeted us as we awoke, so we had some breakfast before set off down the Oxford canal for the last time for awhile, we leave the canal and turn left towards London this time and its not long before we reach our first lock where it's manned, as we approached the lock on to the locks mooring we were only their two secs tying up the boat when we heard a grumpy voice " turn off your engine" an old git in his garden moaning, i can't believe people why buy house next to a lock and then worry about the boats that use it.....

Anyway onwards we venture down to Oxford centre here we are told that today is a boat regatta so to be careful, as we travel a little bit further down we are literally in the middle of the races with boats heading this way and that way towards us, we didn't kill anyone, not what we know of anyway.

There is to much to say about Oxford so just Google it and pay a visit if possible, downwards we carry on traveling pass the different colleges rowing clubs and another two locks before we are in open countryside again

The hills close in from the east and the landscaped grounds of Nuneham house comes into view

and it not long before we again moor above Abingdon Lock an area noted for its muted swans, we moor up and enjoy the afternoon sunshine watching an array of boats going to and fro, from narrowboats, cruisers, speedboats with their occupants drinking gin and tonic, and Pimms, rowing boats, kayaks and passenger ferries taking the passengers back up to Oxford.
