Today we got up and filled up with water before proceeding through Abington lock which was a bit of a trial, as the lock keeper had not arrived as yet, so it was push this button to close and push this one to open gate,Denise managed to fill the lock and open the gate when the lock keeper appeared hooray, so we went through and then mooring at the other side.
We moor at a park located not far from the town,Abington is reputed to be one of the England's oldest inhabited towns, http://www.abingdon.gov.uk/discover-abingdon/abingdon-story
It's a pretty town and well worth a visit , we done a bit more shopping and Denise bought a grannies shopping trolley, though it does make taking the shopping back to boat a lot easier. We wandered around the town and then returned to the boat and sat in the afternoon sun, watching the life on Thames go floating pass.
Opposite a boat is the old gaol( jail) which is being converted to trendy accommodation but has a reputation on being haunted http://www.berkshirehistory.com/legends/abingdongaol_ghost.html
A bit more info tomorrow as we carry on out travels .
We were in Abingdon last night, arrives Sunday lunch time and moored by the swimming pool. Left this morning locking up at 1010 hrs with a lock keeper in attendance. Now on the S Oxford Canal.
