Not much to write about the different places we pass as wrote about them on the way up the river, we make good progress as the river is running fast and with the boat, but its a bugger to steer and to come to a stop. Normally on the canal there is no flow, but the river is a lot different, so simple tasks like come to a stop to get off and operate a lock turn into a big ordeal, what with the flow, the wind and the weir trying to push you every where except where I need to be.
Suffice to say a few mishaps along the way, I was going around a bend and the wind took then back of the boat and threw it to the bank where we ran aground ten minutes after rocking, go back and forth, use the pole we managed to get free,I had thoughts of ring River Canal Rescue, but fortunately we didn't have to.
Next incident was Denise opened one of the two gates on one of the locks, and nine times out of ten I managed to get through with no problems, this time was different, what with the fast flow and the wind I hit one of the lock gates pushing the wood frame of the cratch cover of its seating, luckily I managed to fix it, I will be glad to get of the river back to the safety of the canals.
Saying that it be great doing this stretch we seen so much wildlife, crested grebe, curlew, kingfishers, herons, terns, geese, crayfish and grass snakes, the latter was shown to us by a lock keeper he lifted a piece of corrugated iron and underneath was a few nest of snakes all slithering and sliding.
We travel for a few hours today all away back to Enysham lock and moor up, go to the pub for a few shandies before come back and having dinner and settling down for the night ....speak to you soon.
Sorry for the lack of photos as for some reason the ones I took didn't write to the memory card, not to worry plenty more to come.
